Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"Freddie Lindstrom was a Hall of Fame third baseman and outfielder who primarily played for the New York Giants. He played in World Series on both ends of his 13-year career, in 1924 and again in 1935. Between those, he reached up some very impressive numbers: seven times, he topped .300, including a career-high .379 in 1930. In addition to his hitting accomplishments, he was considered one of the best third baseman of his time. A foot injury in 1931 led to a position switch to the outfield, where he continued to excel. The Hall of Fame came calling in 1972, a just reward for an outstanding career. He finished with 1,747 hits in 5,611 at-bats, good for a .311 clip. That still doesn't come close to his son's lifetime average however. Chuck Lindstrom is the second son of a major leaguer to make the one hit wonder club, Earle Brucker was the first." - Rose, George. Author. Frederick Charles Lindstrom was a Major League Baseball player with the New York Giants (1924-1932), Pittsburgh Pirates (1933-1934), Chicago Cubs (1935), and Brooklyn Dodgers (1936). On October 4, 1924, Lindy, his nickname, took the field during Game 1 of the 1924 World Series and set the record, still unbroken, for youngest player to ever appear in a World Series game — Lindstrom was only 18 years, 10 months, 13 days old!

Did you know that Freddie Lindstrom had nine hits in a doubleheader (Game 1 / Game 1) on June 25, 1928, a Major League record that was set first by Wilbert Robinson in 1892, tied several time since (Most Hits in a Doubleheader), but never broken?

FREDDIE LINDSTROM HITS IN A DOUBLEHEADER RECORD

Freddie Lindstrom Record | The Tribune | 26 June 1928

Freddie Lindstrom (1928 & 1930), Rogers Hornsby (1921 & 1922) and George Sisler (1920 & 1922) were once the only players in baseball history with two 230+ hit seasons. Seventy-four years after Freddie joined this elite set, Ichiro Suzuki (2001 & 2004) tied the hall of fame trio, then in 2007, he became the first (and to date only) player with three 230+ hit single seasons.
