Henry Mason was a Major League Baseball player who pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies (1958, 1960). Hank, his nickname, made his big league debut on September 12, 1958, in Connie Mack Stadium, and the first batter he faced was Willie Mays, a moment he shared with Baseball Almanac:

"Semp had a rough start and got yanked early, Jim did a little better. I didn't expect to be called in that early, and wasn't really ready. Then who did I see waiting for me? Willie Mays. I was not nervous that day, until that moment. I think I threw him four straight balls. Jimmie (Coker) came out and asked if I was going to be okay. I said I would be fine, it was just ... Willie Mays. He told me stop pitching to the person you see, just throw the ball to me."
