"I have a ton of signed balls and bats. I think the one that sticks out to me right now because it’s fresh in my mind is an Al Kaline signed jersey. I actually have several things signed by him that mean a bunch to me. He was a phenomenal person just being around him in the Detroit organization and the friendship that we ended up having. You know I’ve got a picture of us walking down the tunnel in Comerica Park with his arm around me. He signed it and wrote a note to me. So that's a special keepsake. But what really sticks out to me is, I have two signed jerseys that he signed. One he made out to my son Christian, one he made out to my son Kane. And I had him do that because the morning that they were born, within you know them being born ten weeks early, within hours of them being born. He texted me to tell me that he had been praying for them all morning long. So you know, for them, they’ll never really know who Al Kaline was other than the stories that I tell them and what they watch. But having a hall of famer text their dad saying, 'Hey, I’ve been praying for you this morning.' I think that's pretty special to me, I'll remember that." - James McCann (NBC Sports 10, 10 Questions With James McCann, 04/27/2020)

Did you know that when James McCann hit his first career home run on April 29, 2015, it was an inside-the-park homer? Did you know that McCann was actually the seventh catcher in baseball history to enter the Baseball Almanac with a inside-the-parker inaugural homer, joining Phil Masi (1946), Sam Calderone (1950), John Ellis (1969), Andy Etchebarren (1965), Brent Mayne (1991), Angelo Encarnacion (1995) and Chad Moeller (2000)?
Did you know that the next two home runs Brian McCann hit were walkoff homers, making "McCannon" only the third player in Major League history to hit two walk-offs within his first three career homers, joining Kirby Higbe and Kevin Romine?
Did you know that when Brian McCann finished the 2015 season, he had caught 112 games and never once committed an error—a feat duplicated by only five catchers in baseball history prior to McCannon? Backstops, before McCann, with 100-or-more games caught in a season, without an error committed: Chris Iannetta (2008), Chris Snyder (2008), Mike Matheny (2003), Charles Johnson (1997), and Buddy Rosar (1946).
James McCann committed an error on May 30, 2016, the first of his career. McCannon had gone 139 consecutive games, since his Major League debut, without committing an error. The streak included 974 total chances, 69 assists, 6 double plays, and set a new American League record for most games caught without an error to begin a career. Do you know who held the record (Clues: 93 Straight Games, with Indians, from 1932-1934)? [Answer]
On August 14, 2019, James McCann hit a grand slam. On August 16, 2019, James McCann hit a second grand slam. Two slams in 2019 tied McCannon for the major league lead and made him only the third Pale Hose catcher to ever hit two grand slams in the same season, joining Ed Herrmann (1970), and Sherm Lollar (1958).
