Bill Skowron was born on Thursday, December 18, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois. Skowron was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 13, 1954, with the New York Yankees. William Joseph Skowron was a Major League Baseball player with the New York Yankees (1954-1962), Los Angeles Dodgers (1963), Washington Senators (1964), Chicago White Sox (1964-1967), and California Angels (1967). Bill, his nickname, was given a scholarship to play football at Purdue University, but agreed to sign with the Bronx Bombers — four days before camp!
