Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"When I'm on the field my one thought is to completely annihilate you and do everything in my power to make you fail. I don't have a single thought about what my hair looks like, what my shoes look like, why my shirt's unbuttoned. I don't care who you are or what you've done in this game. Right now it's a one-on-one battle and nothing's going to stop me from doing what I need to do to get the game over. I got three chances to get you out, three strikes. I got four chances to walk you. I like my odds. If I can't get that guy, I'll get the next guy." - Brian Wilson on USA Today (Bob Nightengale, 10/19/2010, 'Giants' closer Brian Wilson not as crazy as he looks, acts', Source)

Brian Wilson had fifty-three opportunities to save a game in 2010, a Giants franchise record for most save opportunities (SVO) in a season. It was the fourth time in team history where a closer had fifty-or-more save opportunities in the same season - Rod Beck (52 SVO in 1993), Robb Nen (52 SVO in 2001 & 51 SVO in 2002).

Brian Wilson recorded a save in forty-eight of the fifty-three games (in 2010), tying the Giants record for most saves in a season, set originally by Rod Beck in 1993. The Beard led every Major League pitcher in saves in 2010 (Year by Year Saves Leaders), a first by a Giant in San Francisco, a feat not matched since Ace Adams had a major-league leading 13 saves with the New York Giants in 1944 (a year later, Ace had a league leading 15 saves, but finished tied with Andy Karl for most in the majors).

Did you know that Brian Wilson was the twenty-seventh pitcher born in Delaware, the first ever from Londonberry, and when The Beard recorded his forty-third career save, he passed Stan Williams for most games saved by a pitcher from Delaware?

Did you know that when Brian Wilson took the field on August 22, 2013, he became the first player from the Los Angeles Dodgers to wear #00 during a regular season game? The double zeroes made it a franchise first as Al Oliver had worn #0 with the Dodgers in 1985, first stepping onto the field wearing #0 on April 9, 1985.
