On August 2, 1987, Bobby Witt entered the baseball feats section of The Baseball Almanac when he struck out four batters in one inning, the first pitcher from the Texas Rangers to join the "club". In the top of the second inning, Witt struck out Ray Knight to start the inning. Terry Kennedy went down on strikes next, but the backstop (Mike Stanley) was charged with an error when he let the third strike get away from him. Unfazed, Witt sent Mike Young and Ken Gerhart to the dugout on strikeouts, four batters, four strikeouts, same inning, baseball history.

Bobby Witt was notoriously wild, and during his rookie season (1986), he walked a league leading 143 batters, the fourth highest number of bases on balls issued by a rookie in American League history, behind Elmer Myers (168 walks in 1916), Herb Score (154 walks in 1955) and Bobo Newsom (149 walks in 1934). To date, Witt, who was sometimes referred to by "fans" as "Witt 'n Wild" (Wet 'n Wild was located by Arlington Stadium at the time) remains the only pitcher from the Texas Rangers to issue ten walks in a game twice (September 1, 1990 & August 15, 1992).

That same season (1986), Witt 'n Wild also threw a league leading twenty-two wild pitches, the most in a single season by a Texas Ranger, breaking the record of 17 wild pitches thrown by Frank Bertaina in 1968.

The American League adopted the designated hitter rule in 1973. On October 3, 1972, Roric Harrison became the last pitcher to hit a home run in the junior circuit after the DH went into affect. Fast forward to 1997, Major League Baseball adopted Interleague Play, setting up regular season games between teams from each league. On June 30, 1997, Bobby Witt hit a home run in the top of the sixth inning off Ismael Valdes - the first by a pitcher in the AL since Roric.
