Baseball Digest began its coverage of Major League Baseball in August 1942. They are, in Baseball Almanac's opinion, the single best source of baseball information anywhere. Listed below in chronological order are the pitchers chosen by Baseball Digest as recipients of Baseball Digest's Pitcher of the Year. Pitchers were included in Player of the Year selections through 1993. In 1994 Baseball Digest began choosing both a Player & Pitcher of the Year.

Baseball Digest selects the recipient of the Pitcher of the Year Award based on who was "the most complete and dominant starting pitcher over the course of the season." To qualify alone requires that the pitcher has won at least fifteen games, pitcher 200+ innings, and have an ERA below 4.00.
