On July 26, 1909, Jack Coffey of Boston played in the longest game, seventeen innings, without an assist by a shortstop!

On April 13, 1982, Rick Burleson of California played in a twenty inning game and had fifteen assists which is the most in an extra inning game by a shortstop!

Ozzie Smith is also the major league record holder for most years with at least five-hundred assists by a shortstop: 1978, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1987 and 1988!
