Strikeouts by Team Records

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a record book full of baseball milestones for strikeouts - including single season plateaus and game related records.

"Who cares (about setting the single game strikeout record)? It's just a win or a loss. It doesn't really matter about the punchouts." - Geoff Jenkins (on 05-16-2003)

Strikeout Records Set by Major League Baseball Teams

On April 22, 1970, the New York Mets struck out the last San Diego Padres batter during the sixth inning. In the seventh, eighth, and ninth inning their pitchers struck out three consecutive batters in each inning. These ten consecutive strikeouts are the most ever during any game.

On August 28, 1926, the Cleveland Indians only had one batter strike out during both ends of a doubleheader. Their opponent, the Boston Red Sox, had zero batters strike out during both ends setting the Major League record for fewest strikeouts by BOTH teams in a doubleheader.

Did you know that a baseball team could strike out four batters during a single inning? Read about this unique feat here on Baseball Almanac.
