We received a great Jeremy Accardo quote from a top notch researcher who regularly contributes data to Baseball Almanac. Two-and-a-half hours later, I replied that the quote was added to his page. Why did it take so long? Here is what we did after receiving that one quote:
- Integrated the quote onto his online baseball card
- Changed his weight (MLB adjusted it ten pounds)
- Added a fast fact about his 30-save season
- Integrated a baseball card that complimented the fact
No way that took two hours, in fact it only took about 30 minutes. So, Jeremy signed the “2007 Topps” baseball card thats on his page at a Spring Training game in 2010. I put the card title in quotes because that is how I originally had it. I checked our Baseball Card Database and did not have the 2007 Topps set integrated.
Dug a little deeper, found out it wasn’t just a 2007 Topps, but rather a 2007 Topps Updates & Highlights Baseball Card. Added that checklist to the site, then added the link to it on his page, and of course corrected the title of the card under the autograph.
That one particular set of 330 cards had a parallel set of Red Back (two per pack), First Edition (one per box), Gold (#/2007), Copper (#/56), Printing Plates (#/1) and Platinum (#/1). Added every variation of those Topps sets as well.
A search of the database revealed we had additional players with that particular card featured. Can’t just update one, and leave the others without a checklist. Updated these players:
Once that was done, I replied back to let them know the quote they sent us had (finally) been installed on the page, but as you can see, your emails, your assistance, affect the site in much larger way. This one in particular resulted in the player named being updated, the fifteen players above being updated, and the addition of 2,130 baseball cards (7 sets) in the BCD!
