"On September 28, Elmer Bliss, a native of Penfield, Pennsylvania (50 miles northeast of Altoon), became the first Elmer to play for the American League team in New York. In the second-to-last game of the Highlanders inaugural season, Bliss picked up the victory with a 7-inning relief stun against the Tigers. Three days later, the first World Series between the NL and AL opened with the Pittsburgh Pirates defeating the Americans at Huntington Avenue Grounds in Boston. Elmer Bliss played his second and final major league game in right field of the Highlanders in 1904." - Baseball Historian Michael Mavrogiannis in The Elmers of Sandusky (SABR Newsletter; Casey Stengel Chapter, Volume III, Number 3, Winter Issue, December 2002, Page 6)
