Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"Burns had an odd batting stance. He stood very straight at the plate with his feet together, his bat resting on his shoulder; it was said he looked like a soldier standing at attention. The first half of his career was interrupted by constant injuries. In one three-year period (1915-1917) he had malaria, a broken ankle suffered on the ball field, and a broken shoulder blade suffered diving into a swimming pool." - Author Bill James in The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract (Free Press Publishing, 06/13/2003, '#79. George Burns,' Page 468)
