Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"'Sneaky dangerous,' we call him. Mac doesn't say much on the field, doesn't even look that mean, but he's fast for a big man - and he doesn't mind sliding late. McReynolds finished Montreal second baseman Junior Noboa for the season last September with a perfectly legal but nevertheless devastating roll-block. Noboa's mistake was waiting too long to get rid of the ball at second while McReynolds thundered in. If he recovers, he'll know better in 1991." - Sportswriter Bob Klapisch in Inside Sports (Baseball Ratings and Inside Stuff, 'If the Boz couldn't stop him, what chance does Al Newman have?', February 1991)

On August 1, 1989, Kevin McReynolds became the sixth right-handed New York Mets batter to drive in 6-or-more runs during the same game, joining Jerry Buchek, Gary Carter, Donn Clendenon, Dave Kingman, and Frank Thomas. Dozens more have had a 6-RBI game since, but through today, Mac remains the only Mets' hitter (lefty or righty) to also complete the cycle, collecting a double and homer versus Scott Terry, a single off Dan Quisenberry, and a bases-loaded triple against Ricky Horton, in the ninth inning!

Did you know that Kevin McReynolds hit at least twenty-home runs across six different seasons (1984 & 1986-1990), and during that ten year period (1980-1990), only five National League sluggers had more 20+ HR seasons; Jack Clark (7), Mike Schmidt (8), Darryl Strawberry (8), Andre Dawson (9), and Dale Murphy (10)?

Kevin McReynolds successfully stole twenty-one bases in 1988, and was never caught stealing, setting a Major League record for most stolen bases in a season without a caught stealing (since broken), and the first player in baseball history to swipe 20-or-more bags in the same season without ever being caught stolen.
