Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"Eddie Milner made a name for himself corralling pitchers; mistakes with his glove in the outfield and burning up the basepaths with his legs in the 1980s – a name he knows he tarnished by allowing drug use to prematurely end his stay in the game he loved." - Baseball Historian John Wickline (SABR Baseball Biography Project, Eddie Milner, Source)

On August 24, 1983, Chicago Cubs starting pitching Chuck Rainey took a 3-0 no-hitter into the ninth inning at Wrigley Field. Though the first six innings it was a perfect game, but Eddie Milner led off the seventh with a walk. After playing spoiler with the bases on balls, Milner did it again in the ninth, breaking up the no-no with a clean single and two outs already recorded.

Did you know that Eddie Milner is the only Cincinnati Reds player - who batted lefty & threw lefty - to swipe forty-or-more bases during the 1980s? In fact, only on identical type of player (BL/TL) swiped 40+ in the 1970s (Bobby Tolan) and in the 1990s (Deion Sanders)!
