Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"Even though Walt Wilmot did almost everything possible for a player to do in 1890 he still found time to set a major league record which still stands as one of the zaniest events ever to occur on a diamond. Wilmot, while running the bases, because the first player in Major League history to be hit twice be a batted ball in the same game. He accomplished this feat on Sept. 30, 1890, and he probably did it to get the season over with quicker. The only player in Major League history to duplicate Wilmot's dubious feat is one Ernest Short and he's got a partial excuse. He was a pitcher!" - Staff Writers Tim Sullivan and Randy Wievel (Stevens Point Journal, 09/14/1983, Walt Wilmot: baseball star of the '90s, Page 21)
