Providence College Baseball Players Who Made it to the Major Leagues

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive chart of every Providence College alumnus who played baseball at the Providence College AND made it to the Major League level.

"A high-voiced, talkative backstop, Birdie's (Tebbetts) nickname was acquired while at Providence College. A consistent hitter, he made exactly one-thousand hits in a fourteen year career interrupted by three years of military service. He managed for eleven Major League seasons." - Historian Jack Kavanagh on BaseballLibrary.com

Providence College MLB Player Alumnus

The Providence College baseball program started in 1921 and Ed Wineapple was their first player to make it to the Major League level.

The "Friars" expression first appeared in an April 9, 1929 Providence Journal sports story prior to the start of the 1929 baseball season, describing a game against Northeastern University, and in 1932 it became more officially recognized as the one true cognomen for Providence College.
