Caught Stealing Records

The record for being caught stolen during a single game is three and there are quite a few occurrences. However, did you know that Robby Thompson of the San Francisco Giants is the only player who was caught stealing four different times during an extra inning game? That infamous game was played on June 27, 1986 and lasted twelve (long) innings.

The Major League record for most consecutive games played during a career without being caught stolen is held by Gus Triandos who from August 3, 1953, through August 15, 1965, played 1,206 games and was not caught stolen once.

Max Carey of the Pittsburgh Pirates is the only player in history to steal at least fifty bases during a single season (1922) yet only be caught twice (the fewest by any player with at least fifty steals). By comparison, the American League record for fewest times being caught stealing with at least fifty stolen bases is eight and six players (Luis Aparicio in 1960, Bert Campaneris in 1969, Amos Otis in 1971, Willie Wilson in 1983, Rickey Henderson in 1993 & Vince Coleman in 1994) are tied for the record.
