"At the end of the day, the only one I have anything to prove to is myself. At the end of my career, I want to be able to tell myself I gave everything I had and helped my teammates. All the other stuff is great. They won't talk about me being a baseball player, I want to be a good person first." - Strange-Gordon, Dee. Doubters can't slow down confident Gordon. Gurnick, Ken. Dee Strange-Gordon Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Did you know that when Dee Strange-Gordon hit his first career inside-the-park home run on June 30, 2015, off pitcher Ryan Vogelsong, it was also the first inside-the-park homer at Marlins Park?
Did you know that Dee Strange-Gordon, on July 1, 2011, stole second base in the seventh inning, then third base, then home? Flash Gordon was the first Dodger to steal second, third, and home in the same inning since Harvey Hendrick turned the baserunning feat on June 12, 1928!
Dee Strange-Gordon Stealing Home | July 1, 2011 | MLB Advanced Media, L.P.
In 1949, Jackie Robinson won a batting title (.342 AVG) and a stolen base crown (37 SB), a rare feat not duplicated in the National League (NL) until 2015, when Dee Strange-Gordon won both a batting championship (.333 AVG) and the Lou Brock Award / NL Stolen Base Leader (58 SB).
When Dee Strange-Gordon made his Major League debut on June 6, 2011, Southeastern University head coach Jason Beck said, "We were psyched to see him yesterday, and I know he's worked extremely hard to get to this position. I'm glad to see he's finally got one of the dreams that he's been working toward. I didn't think it would come this fast and that big. You can't teach speed, and he was just a very athletic kid. We knew he had a high ceiling." Why? Dee hit .378 with 45 swipes and 44 ribbies with the Fire in 2007, spent a little time in the minors, and became the first former Southeastern player to make it to the show.
