"I never slept when I lost. I'd see the sun come up without ever having closed my eyes. I'd see those base hits over and over and they would drive me crazy." - Robin Roberts (Major League Leader in Home Runs Allowed)

Home Runs Allowed Records | Research by Baseball Almanac |
The "modern" (since 1900) National League record for home runs allowed in a game is six and it has been allowed three times by three different pitchers: Larry Benton of New York on May 12, 1930, Sloppy Thurston of Brooklyn on August 13, 1932 & Bill Kerksieck of Philadelphia on August 13, 1939.
Some entire pitching staffs are "infamous" (surrendering the most total home runs during a season in baseball history) and get their own team related home runs allowed records which we have posted below:
Most Home Runs Allowed by a Team in a Season | ||
AL | 305 | 2019 Baltimore Orioles |
NL | 270 | 2019 Colorado Rockies |
Did you know that only seven pitchers in Major League history have ever given up four consecutive home runs in an inning? On July 31, 1963, Paul Foytack of the Los Angeles Angels set the mark; forty-four years later Chase Wright, on April 22, 2007, tied the mark; three short years later, Dave Bush joined the "club"; on August 11, 2010, Michael Blazek entered the Almanac on July 27, 2017; Craig Stammen matched them on June 9, 2019; Roel Ramirez made it a sextet on August 16, 2020, and lastly, Kyle Gibson made it a magnificent seven on July 2, 2022.
