Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"(Brandon) Inge is an athletic freak of nature. He reportedly can dunk a basketball and hit a golf ball 350 yards, and he once entertained his teammates by kicking a 50-yard field goal during a promotional event at Ford Field in Detroit. Rumor has it that Inge also enjoys blasting pregame fungoes off the roof of the Metrodome in Minnesota." - Crasnick, Jerry. ESPN Columnist. When Brandon Inge struck out on September 25, 2010, it was his 1,100th career strikeout, setting a new Detroit Tigers franchise record for strikeouts. Inge passed Lou Whitaker (1,099 strikeouts) and became one of only four Detroit Tigers players with at least 1,000 strikeouts (in a Tigers uniform), the other two are Norm Cash (1,081) and Al Kaline (1,020).

Lou Gehrig had four runs batted in (RBI) during a game on August 29, 1931, four more on August 30, 1931, four more on August 31, 1931, then four more in game two of a doubleheader on September 1, 1931. The next player, from either league, to have at least four RBI's in four games during a five game stretch was Brandon Inge! His amazing stretch occurred on May 6, 2012, May 8, 2012, May 10, 2012, and May 11, 2012.

Brandon Inge has fielded every infield position (except pitcher), every outfield position (leftfield, centerfield and rightfield), and appeared as pinch hitter, a pinch runner, and a designated hitter. Initially brought up from the minors as a catcher, he played the most career games at third base and etched his name in the record books in 2005, when he led the American League in assists (378) and double plays (42). A year later, still at third base, he had 398 assists, breaking the Tigers record for assists in a season at third set by Aurelio Rodriguez (389 in 1974).
