"It's hard to describe the feeling that went through my body at that point (completing the cycle / Box Score). I just kind of got the chills, especially when I got the ovation." - Eric Byrnes (Post Game Press Conference. ESPN News Network. June 29, 2003.)

Eric Byrnes Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Eric Byrnes was the first Arizona Diamondbacks right-handed batter with a 20-20 season (20+ home runs & 20+ stolen bases) - demonstrating his speed & power in both 2006 and 2007.
In 2007, Byrnes also stole fifty bases, only the tenth player in baseball history to hit at least twenty homers and steal at least fifty bases during the same season. Those who came before the "Crash Test Dummy" were: Lou Brock (1967), Cesar Cedeno (1972, 1973, 1974), Joe Morgan (1973, 1974, 1976), Rickey Henderson (1985, 1986, 1990, 1993), Ryne Sandberg (1985), Eric Davis (1986, 1987), Barry Bonds (1990), Brady Anderson (1992), and Craig Biggio (1998).
AT&T Park is a baseball cathedral located in the South Beach neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Since 2000, it has served as home field for the San Francisco Giants. Originally named Pacific Bell Park (Pac Bell), then SBC Park in 2003 after SBC Communications acquired Pacific Bell, the stadium was ultimately christened AT&T Park in 2006, following SBC's merger with AT&T. Why did we mention the histry of AT&T park on Eric Byrnes' page?
On June 29, 2003, Eric Byrnes hit a leadoff single in the first inning of a game played in Pac Bell Park. In the third inning, still facing Giants righty Jesse Foppert, Byrnes hit a crisp double to center field. In the top of the fifth, now facing Chad Zerbe, Brynes deposited a 2-1 pitch over the wall, leaving him a triple shy of a cycle. The Giants went to the bullpen again, Jason Christiansen taking the mound in the seventh, same results, Byrnes led off that inning with his second double of the game, still a triple shy of the cycle, one at-bat left in the game. Top of the ninth inning, two outs, closer Felix Rodriguez on the mound, a 2-2 count, and Byrnes hit the elusive triple completing the first cycle ever hit in Pac Bell Park.
Did you know that Eric Byrnes was the first Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder to win a Fielding Bible Award at his position (Left Field)?
