"He is the epitome of a lead-by-example guy. If I said it once, I said it a million times to the other younger players: 'Just watch the way he prepares.' He is not verbose. He doesn't have to scream and yell to get his point across. It all starts with performance on the field, but it also trickles in to respect in the clubhouse, what he does in the community with his foundation and that sort of thing." - Rizzo, Mike. Washington Nationals General Manager. Zimmerman signs six-year extension with Nats. Ladson, Bill. MLB Staff Writer. 26 February 2012.

Ryan Zimmerman Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Ryan Wallace Zimmerman was a Major League Baseball player who spent his entire sixteen year career playing for the Washington Nationals (2005-2019, 2021). Did you know that Zim, his nickname, was the first Washington Nationals (Expos appear below) player to drive in 100 runs in a single season? In 2006, Zimmerman — who was still a rookie — finished the year with 110 RBI, the first 100-RBI season by a National and the 12th most (Top 25) in the National League (NL) that season, behind Ryan Howard (149 RBI), Albert Pujols (137 RBI), Lance Berkman (136 RBI), Andruw Jones (129 RBI), Garrett Atkins (120 RBI), Aramis Ramirez (119 RBI), Carlos Beltran (116 RBI), David Wright (116 RBI), Miguel Cabrera (114 RBI), Carlos Delgado (114 RBI) and Matt Holliday (114 RBI).

Ryan Zimmerman, as we noted above, was the first 100-RBI player who was wearing a Washington Nationals uniform. The franchise had several 100-RBI players when they were still the Montreal Expos, in order: Ken Singleton (103 RBI in 1973, 1st instance in Montreal), Gary Carter (101 RBI in 1980 & 106 RBI in 1984), Al Oliver (109 RBI in 1982), Andre Dawson (113 RBI in 1983), Hubie Brooks (100 RBI in 1985), Tim Wallach (123 RBI in 1987), Henry Rodriguez (103 RBI in 1996), Vladimir Guerrero (109 RBI in 1998, 131 RBI in 1999, 123 RBI in 2000, 108 RBI in 2001 & 111 RBI in 2002), and Tony Batista (110 RBI in 2004, Last instance in Montreal).
Ryan Zimmerman, as we noted above, was also a rookie the first year he drove in 100+ runs. The two NL rookies, before Ryan, who had a 100-RBI season were Albert Pujols (130 RBI in 2001) and Mike Piazza (112 RBI in 1993), both won the Rookie of the Year Award that season. Zimmerman did not win Rookie of the Year, but finished second in one of the closest votes in the awards history, receiving 101 points, slightly behind Hanley Ramirez who had 105 points.

Ryan Zimmerman won the Gold Glove Award and the Silver Slugger Award in 2009, the seventh National League third baseman to receive each award in the same season, joining Mike Schmidt (1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986), Tim Wallach (1985), Matt Williams (1993, 1994), Ken Caminiti (1996), Scott Rolen (2002), David Wright (2007, 2008). Zimmerman was the first Nationals player, from any position, to win both the same season and has since only been joined by first baseman Adam LaRoche, who also won each award in 2012.
Vladimir Guerrero hit safely in thirty-one consecutive games, the longest hitting streak in franchise history. Since Vlad, only one player has hit safely in at least thirty consecutive games — Ryan Zimmerman, who came within one game of tying Guerrero in 2009.
