Six Hits in One 9-Inning Game

Any hitter would be happy with a game where they went three for four, or even three for five, but no player regularly comes into a game expecting to collect three or four hits. Just think of the pride one has when he ends up with six hits in one nine-inning game.

As if the hits were not sensational enough, some players like to add another feat to their already fabulous day:

Both Larry Twitchell and Sam Thompson hit for the cycle while they collected six hits.

Shawn Green had four of his six hits go for home runs.

Wilbert Robinson and Rennie Stennett didn’t settle for six hits, they went seven for seven.

Cal McVey liked his six hits so much, he did it again three days later.

All of the players listed below defied the odds, bolstered their averages, and generally ruined a pitcher’s day by going the distance, and hitting safely six times in nine innings, nothing short of amazing.

"When I connected seven-for-seven, few realized in the colorful Wrigley Field, that I used the bat of Manny Sanguillen and that it was a little heavier." - Rennie Stennett (7 for 7 on September 16, 1975)

Six Hits in One 9-Inning Game | Bold=7 Hits in One 9-Inning Game

Extra inning six-hit games (which are not listed above): There were an additional nineteen instances in the American League and twenty-one instances in the National League. An amazing day at the plate, but not quite as amazing as those up above.

Two players from the defunct Players League had six-hit games: Ed Delahanty with Cleveland on June 2, 1890 (four singles, one double & one triple) & Billy Shindle with Philadelphia on August 26, 1890 (three singles, two doubles & one triple). Other defunct league six-hit games include those in the chart below:
